You Want the Truth?The truth is it takes men with guns_ _ _ ok, and some other lines from movies will inform our judgment of the District Attorney E-Mail Crisis.
Chuck Rosenthal (or “Chucky,” as his friends call him) sent a bunch of terrible e-mails to employees, friends, and his political consultant, Allen Blakemore.
As it appears now, neither his consigliere nor his coworkers had the wit to tell Chuck that there are some things you don’t say on a government e-mail server.
No question remains that Rosenthal (and his political consultant) is an idiot for using public computers to communicate private matters. Rosenthal’s public conduct turned a private matter into a public discussion.
What remains is the question of whether political drama and private scandal really have anything at all to do with criminal justice.
The recent press would have us aghast that prosecutors occasionally use off-color language and laugh at things we’re supposed to be shocked by. Ok, ok, we’re shocked. We’re shocked that Chuck was stupid enough to put this stuff on his public e-mail. We’re not shocked that people who do tough jobs occasionally use rough language.
Oprah be damned, real people should wonder just how sensitive and P.C. we want our last line of law enforcement to be.
Your humble scribe is no fan of Rosenthal, but would appreciate if we could all momentarily put aside our sensitive sides, and think about the dirty work of prosecuting violent offenders, and what kind of people have to do that job.

Piss on the emails. There are a bunch of other reasons he should be kicked out. Number one is that he is an asshole. Number two is that he imagines that he decides what the law is, not the legislature (either of them). That kind of nut in our government needs to be kicked out all over the USA.
JD is right. There are lots of reasons to hate Rosenthal besides phony outrage and sanctimony over the emails.
Um, ok, comparing prosecutors to Marines is a bit of a stretch.
But I'm just as disgusted by all the PC sanctimony as I am by anything I've seen in the emails.
